Solar Power - Is it for you?

One of our clients asked if we could build a solar powered house for him. Naturally we said yes but we would need to learn more.

So, I got on the phone with Bruce Carey of Solar Costa Rica S.A. They have been installing solar energy systems in Costa Rica for over 12 years. If you have any interest in solar power in Costa Rica, I strongly suggest that you visit their web site.

One conversation with Bruce does not make me an expert but here is a quick synopsis of what is available and what works:

• Solar hot water is a natural for Costa Rica. The cost for an average home installation is less than $2,500 and for a Jacuzzi it starts at about $1,200.
• Solar electric is still expensive but not as much as it used to be.  If your connection to ICE is more than 1 kilometer away then it is worth looking into.
• Wind power is an option in certain areas.
